Senate: Finance, Settlement, Food Safety Bills Tabled

This was during a plenary sitting on November 20 chaired by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the House, Aboubakary Abdoulaye.

Four bills were on November 20, 2018 tabled before the Senate for consideration. This was during a plenary sitting chaired by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the House, Aboubakary Abdoulaye in the presence of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assembly, Amadou Ali. There are bills No. 107/ PJL/ SEN/2, 111/ PJL/ SEN/2L and 112/ PJL/SEN/2L and 113/ PJL/ SEN/2L forwarded to the Senate on November 16, 2018 by the Speaker of the National Assembly after adoption by the said House according to Article 30 of the Constitution. Bill No. 107/PJL/SEN/2L seeks to authiorise the President of the Republic to ratify the Minamata Convention on Mercury, adopted on October 2013 in Japan. The objective of this Convention is to protect human health from the devastating effects of the so-called Minamata disease which slows down child development at an early stage and causes toxic effects on the nervous, digestive and immune systems. The ratification of this Convention will therefore enable the government to strengthen its legal arsenal to more effectively combat environmental pollution and protect the population from exposure to mercury. The second bill submitted for scrutiny, which is No. 111/ PJL/ SEN/2L is a framework bill on food safety.
