After they lost against Nigeria in the semi-final on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 the players are now focused on qualifying for the World Cup.
The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon are in Cape Coast in the Centre Region of Ghana where they will play the third-place play-off against Mali on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Cape Stadium. After they lost 2-4 after penalty kicks against the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the semi-final on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 the players are now focused on qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in France. The team and officials left Accra yesterday, November 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. local time for Cape Coast where they will begin with preparations. They were accompanied by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Dissake Mbarga Michel.
Prior to their departure, some Cameroonian journalists and others from foreign media houses as well as fans and sympathisers of the Indomitable Lionesses were at the Alisa Hotel Residence of the Lionesses to bid them goodbye. Shortly before departure, one could see the players and officials coming out of the hotel with their luggage ready for take-off.
The coach, Joseph Ndoko said the players will continue with training in Cape Coast while waiting for tomorrow’s encounter. He said the grief of the defeat was over and that the players were determined to work hard for the next match. One of the fans, Jean Pierre N. said he was there to congratulate the Lionesses for their performance in the semi-final match and to tell them not to give up. Another fan who asked for anonymity said he and his friends were about to make the trip to Cape Coast to support the Lionesses. “We are not yet out of the competition. The Lionesses must qualify for the World Cup. We have not lost it all,” he said.
The Bayana Bayana of South Africa and the Super Falcons of Nigeria have already qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. The third-place match between Cameroon and Mali will decided which team will join Nigeria and South Africa for the World Cup.
