Fonju Njukang Bernard: The Conciliator Who Seeks An Inclusive Society

He will pilot the affairs of the National Disarmament Demobilsation and Reintegration Committee at the level of the South West Region.

Staff members serving at the South West Governor’s Office in Buea have hailed the appointment of their colleague on December 7, 2018, as the South West Regional Coordinator for the National Disarmament Demobilasation and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC). They said that he is the right person for the job given a rich professional career spanning over 20 years in administration and his current status as a Ph.D student in International Relations and Conflict Resolution. Fonju Njukang Bernard on his part said that upon receiving the news of his appointment, the first thoughts have been to assess the scope, magnitude and the dimension of the task awaiting him ahead. He sees the NDDRC as a task that require working across the board with all stakeholders like civil society, administrative authorities, traditional rulers, the Forces of Law and Order, population and the media. “The main trust is to be able to engage in dialogue and to show the good will, readiness and availability to pursue peace, preach dialogue, tolerance and reconciliation,” he explained. He will be also be counting on directives from the National Coordinator of NDDRC.

Prior to his appointment, Fonju Njukang Bernard was the Head of Division for Security and Administrative Organisation at the South west Governor’s Office. From 2001 to 2003, he was Personal Assistant to South West Governor.
