Media attacks against the First Lady Chantal Biya have left her supporters worried and wondering where she must have gone wrong. Her humanitarian activities, which are visible for all to see and the practice that is common with most personalities of her status have been misinterpreted by some ill-intentioned minds as hidden desires for power. There are even simple-minded people who could view such erroneous interpretations of the Cameroon First Lady’s works as justification for her to back down. Yet, her determination to continue with her actions was disclosed through her tweet yesterday 21 February, 2019.
In a rather resolute fashion, Mrs Biya called on her supporters to “stay motivated and committed”, adding that; “slander, lies and wickedness cannot distract us.” Such strong wordings coming on her twitter handle by 6 PM yesterday witnessed numerous reactions in less than an hour. Her choice of social media channel to respond to her detractors reflects a desire to address the youthful population of Cameroon as well as her “sisters” in the various humanitarian institutions that have been unrelenting in backing her cry for the vulnerable, the underprivileged and destitute people in societies across Cameroon. Showing concern for persons in need and learning that anybody would liken such goodwill to power mongering could easily lead to derailment.
