What is the focus of the 11th workshop on Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery?

It is to show and familiarize young doctors on what endoscopic surgery is all about. Also, to show them the benefits of endoscopic surgery, for example, with open surgery, the patient is cut open from top to bottom. This usually produces huge scars in patients. But with endoscopic surgery, everything is through tinny incision and the outcome on the patient is better as she recovers quickly and can get back on her feet. Endoscopic surgery gives the surgeon, a better view of what he or she is doing during a surgical session.

How has endoscopic surgery evolved in Cameroon since the first workshop?

I think Professor Kasia has done a wonderful job to make known endoscopic surgery in the country. I have been here on several occasions to talk about endoscopic surgery. I think it is really progressing in Cameroon. But progression does not come fast. It starts slowly. But the main idea is for the medical community to be familiarised with the advantages of the surgery and to get young people in medical schools to be interested in endoscopic surgery. And to get young doctors interested is to bring them to such workshops, give them instruments, let them do the surgery, show them videos on endoscopic surgery, talk to them freely about endoscopic surgery so as to get them interested. The Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery and Human Reproductive Teaching Hospital (CHRACERH) is a good institution that has the facilities to get young doctors into endoscopic surgery programmes. Hopefully, CHRACERH will sign a contract with the University of Yaounde I, to get more young doctors on board more live intervention on endoscopic surgery with the supervision of senior experts. Progressively and through different stages, young doctors will eventually become experts in endoscopic surgery.
