Commonwealth: Youths Empowered To Be Peace Builders

A conference on “empowering youths as peace actors in a connected Commonwealth” took place in Yaounde on March 7, 2019.

As part of activities leading up to the official celebration of the 24th anniversary of the Commonwealth in Cameroon, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC) in partnership with the organization, Local Youth Corner on March 7, 2019 empowered some 100 youth peace builders.

This was within the framework of a conference on the theme, “Empowering Youths as peace actors in a connected Commonwealth”, which is in line with the theme of the 2019 Commonwealth Day, “A connected Commonwealth.”

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou chaired the opening ceremony of the conference at the Chamber of Commerce hall in Yaounde. He said the theme of the celebration fitted the context in which, “Cameroon’s reputation of being a peaceful nation has been threatened primarily by the presence of Boko Haram insurgency in the Northern regions of Cameroon and more recently, the Anglophone crisis, which has exposed Cameroonians to a significant amount of violence.”
