The Secretary General of the International Organisation of la Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo had discussions with President Paul Biya on May 24, 2019.
The new Secretary General of the International Organisation of la Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo on Friday, May 24, 2019 declared that the organisation will get more and more involved in diverse cooperation areas with Cameroon and will always stand by the country. She made the declaration in Yaounde after Unity Palace discussions with President Paul Biya during which she learned more on the security challenges in the country coming mainly from the war against Boko Haram, the sociopolitical crisis in the English-speaking North West and South West Regions and the East region that is exposed to intermittent incursions of rebels from the Central African Republic. All attention is now focused on the special way OIF will stand by Cameroon in tackling the security challenges which will represent a new dimension in cooperation between the country and the organisation.
Cameroon and the International Organisation of la Francophonie have long standing traditional domains of cooperation. Indeed, Cameroon belongs to 84- member organisation. The OIF has been supporting the execution of many projects in Cameroon in the economic domain as well as the organisation of training seminars to facilitate the transfer of technologies in the agro-alimentary area. Reports say since 2007, Cameroon has benefited from capacity building project for countries of the ACP in formulating, negotiating and putting in place trade policies. In the social and environmental domain, reports say after the OIF Special Development Programme in 1975, the Francophone Support Programme for Local Development has been supporting the social development and solidarity in Cameroon. L’Institut de la francophonie pour le développement durable (Ifdd) (Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development) is said to have intense cooperation with Cameroon’s Ministries of Water and Energy Resources and Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development. The OIF gives assistance in the management of the urban sector and offer training scholarships. In the cultural domain the OIF has invested by accompanying Cameroon in sectors such as the press, book and audio visual publishing, cultural and linguistic diversity and sports.
