The Syli Nationale will be seeking their first continental title at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
The Syli National of Guinea are old hands in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. These notwithstanding, Guinea are yet to go beyond the group stage of the competition. To prepare for the 2019 total Africa Cup of nations, the team decided to have their pretournament camping in Marrakech, Morocco early June before heading for Egypt. As part of preparations the Syli National played friendly matches against Benin and Egypt.
They played against Benin on June 11, 2019 in Marrakech and will play against Egypt on June 15, 2019 in Alexandria. Guinea's national team coach, Paul Put had earlier published a list of players invited for training in preparation for the African Cup of Nations AFCON.
There were however fears that top star Naby Keita will not be part of the squad following an injury. Reports from Guinea say Naby Keita has linked up with his Syli Stars teammates in Marrakech, Morocco for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations camping programme. The midfielder who copped a groin injury in his club, Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Barcelona in May however stated that he is not one hundred per cent fit yet, but will be ready for his country’s ope ning game against Madagascar on June 22.
Paul Put’s men will be up against tournament debutants Madagascar in Ismaila on June 16, 2019. Keita is expected to be fully fit when Guinea face Nigeria in their next game on June 26, before rounding off their group stage campaign four days later with a fixture against Burundi
