Moment of Recognition:Professor Rose Leke Distinguished At Home

She was awarded the title of Queen Mother of the Cameroon Medical Community.

Rose Gana Fomban Leke, Emeritus Professor of Immunology and Parasitology and former Head of Department of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Yaounde I, has been awarded the title of Queen Mother of the Cameroon Medical Community by the Cameroon Medical Council (CMC).

This was during a soul-touching ceremony in Douala as medical doctors gathered during a recent ordinary general assembly of the Council. After dressing up the retired but not tired Prof Rose Leke in a traditional regalia from the grass field region of the country, alongside a traditional hat and a horse tail best known by the people from Bali as “Sang”, which symbolises honour and authority, the overwhelmed recipient was handed an award certificate by the President of the Cameroon Medical Council, Dr Guy Sandjon.

On the certificate was written: “In Recognition of all your achievements in the training of several generations of Cameroon medical doctors, and your brilliant international scientific reputation of Cameroon and Africa, Professor Rose Gana Fomban Leke, the Cameroon Medical Council award to you the title of Queen Mother of Cameroon Medical Community.” This took place in the presence of a representative of the Minister of Public Health.
