The Harambee Starlets of Kenya will write their name in the annals of African female soccer on Sunday when they clash against their fellow West African sisters Ghana.
The Starlets, who are the first foreign team to kiss the Cameroonian soil, have in their squad a seasoned striker, Esse Mbeyu Akida. The Spedag FC striker, who emerged top scorer at the COTIF invitational tournament in Spain, the CECAFA Women’s Championship in Uganda and the Local League, is expected to lead the hunt for goals.
Born some 23 years ago in Kilifi (Kenya), the 1.85m tall lady already in the seashore town of Limbe, is carrying a very big bag of experience having plied her trade for Matuu and Kemu FC respectively from 2012 to 2015. Though she regrets the absence of her playmate Neddy Atieno, who joined the country’s defense forces, the all-time Kenyan female top goal scorer has promised to deliver when the time comes.
