Seeds For The Future 2016: Ambassador Salutes Huawei Cameroon’s Initiative

H.E. Martin Mpana alongside Huawei Senior Vice President Mr Guo Tianmin received Cameroon’s laureates for the global programme in Beijing on Sunday November 20, 2016.

Cameroon’s Ambassador to China has described as laudable Huawei Cameroon’s initiative to enlist and fully sponsor ten Cameroonian students to participate in “Seed for the Future Programme.” A high level training programme which Huawei Group launched in 2008 to nurture professionals who are needed to drive the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)  in the countries in which the Chinese giant operates.

Addressing the students in Chinese capital city, Beijing, on Sunday November 20, 2016, H.E. Martin Mpana observed, with satisfaction, that the decision to sharpen the skills of the students on an evolving and development-prone domain like ICTs was enough proof that China and Huawei are unwavering in solidifying the mutually-beneficial ties existing between the two countries. He said the move is perfectly in line with Cameroon’s Head of State’s call for the youth to be the android generation.

“I wish to thank Huawei for this initiative and it is our wish that such endeavours multiply. I know the strength of Huawei when it comes to research and development in ICTs, application and connectivity with the rest of the world,” Ambassador Martin Mpana said. He added that Cameroon and the world at large face challenges that warrant innovations and more importantly carriers of the innovations. “Cameroon’s emergence passes through innovations in ICTs and you are lucky to have received this training. Therefore, you need to be ambassadors of change and of Huawei’s growth back in Cameroon,” the Ambassador told the students. He urged them to be creative, hardworking and patriotic for Cameroon to develop in ICTs and for Sino-Cameroonian relationship to continually grow from strength to strength.

Meanwhile, Huawei’s Senior Vice President, Mr Guo Tianmin praised what he termed cordial ties existing between Cameroon and China thanks to which Huawei has been able to develop its activities for years now. “Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cameroon and China some 45 years ago, our relationship has been growing and we are great friends now and mutually-confident development partners. As a company, Huawei is seeking to chip in its modest contribution to this cooperation between our two countries,” Mr Guo Tianmin said.

He added that in an evolving world ICTs play an important role in reinforcing good governance, the promotion of sustainable socio-economic development and national security as well as social stability. “We have been elated to understand that the government of Cameroon attaches a lot of importance to ICTs in its development drive and we are fully ready to work with Cameroon in this light,” the Senior Huawei’s Vice President underlined.

He enumerated the achievements of Huawei in Cameroon for over eleven years that the outfit has been present in the country. “We have a staff strength of over 220 and over 70 per cent of them are recruited locally. We have already entered into partnership with the main telecommunications stakeholders in Cameroon notably CAMTEL through whom we have executed giant projects like the broadband. We want to work with Cameroon to make her a telecommunications hub in Central Africa. This development goes with expertise in the sector and this is why Huawei initiated Seed for the Future Programme,” he disclosed.

The Beijing’s ceremony was preceded by a week of technical training on the development of ICTs at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, South China. A forum which the representative of the students, Tchagna Kounanou Aurelle, in a speech said gave them an opportunity to hear, see and practice latest technologies in the world’s ICTs. The group is currently visiting historic sites in Beijing as well as having a feel of Chinese culture.
