Gouache Landslide : Presidential Couple Offers Gifts To Survivors

Survivors of the October 28, 2019 landslide in Gouache neighbourhood, Bafoussam III Subdivision, Mifi Division of the West Region, have been relocated to three temporary sites in the city by government. In a ceremony held at the Bafoussam Grandstand on November 5, 2019 and presided by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, the Director of Civil Protection, Mrs. Yap Mariatou, presented gifts offered by President Paul Biya and wife, Chantal Biya, to enable the affected settle down in their new environment. 
The gifts included foodstuff, toiletries, water storage containers, mattresses, buckets and 10,000 FCFA to each of the 141 recipient families to enable them transport the donated items. Yap Mariatou reminded all those who have notified to quit high risk zones to immediately do so as natural disasters are becoming commonplace. She cited the recent examples of Guatemala and the Ngoussou neighbourhood of Yaounde. 
Minister Atanga Nji recalled how the Head of State reacted promptly after being informed of the Gouache landslide; and how he has continued to cater for the needs of the affected population. He said after offering 200 million FCFA – 100 million FCFA for the organization of funerals for 43 victims of the disaster and 100 million FCFA for survivors to relocate – the Head of State had again provided material support to the survivors to relocate.
