Senate Receives Bill Regulating Ammunition

It was earlier adopted in the National Assembly yesterday November 27, 2016 before being forwarded to the Senate for further scrutiny.

 

The Chairmen’s Conference of the Senate under the auspices of the President, Marcel NiatNjifenji, yesterday Sunday November 27, 2016, received the bill to lay down general weapons and ammunition regulations in Cameroon from the Speaker of the National Assembly. The bill was forwarded to the Senate for a second reading after it was adopted by the National Assembly on Friday November 25, 2016.

The bill will be tabled in plenary as per the Standing Orders of the Senate today November 28, 2016 before being directed to the Committee on National Defence and Security for scrutiny. It will be defended in committee by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence.

The bill, according to its explanatory statement, seeks not only to facilitate the control of weapons circulation within the country, but also to adapt the legal framework of weapons and ammunition regulations to the profound changes that have taken place in society. It also seeks to align with international conventions to which Cameroon is a party aimed at prohibiting the use of certain weapons and ensuring better control of the circulation of weapons in general.
