CHAN 2020 : Douala Is Ready

A few months to the competition the stadiums are set and only finishing touches are going on.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, was in Douala on Tuesday, January 21st to assess the infrastructural and organizational preparedness of Cameroon to host both the 2020 edition of the African Nations Championship and 2021 AFCON. The visit took the Minister to the Japoma sports complex, the new look omnisport stadium in Bepanda as well as the Bonamoussadi and Mbappe Leppe training fields.

At the Japoma Sports Complex, construction was complete by 99 per cent as they are now doing only finishing touches notably with the electronics. It was the same scenario at the Mbappe Leppe training field where major work on the edifice has been completed and what is left now is the roofing though CAF did not ask for it to be roofed as well as erecting the electric poles and the marking of the pitch. The facility has a water reservoir, a shopping arena, a standby generator. There are two dressing rooms. The Bonamoussadi training ground is a replica of the Mbappe Leppe stadium constructed by the same contractor. Work is at the same level also with electric poles to be erected within the week and the green turf watering mechanism to go operational soon.
