Business Climate: Investors Seek Redress

Major issues featuring during the 3rd business people’s debate at the GICAM headquarters in Douala include controversial weights and delays across truck weighing stations.

 

The third debate by the Cameroon business guild GICAM November 23, ended on a note of hope from the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga, who promised that proposals retained will be given due consideration. Proposals such as the amelioration of the business climate, modification of certain articles of the December 2015 Finance Law, enhancing fluidity in truck weighing stations and the need to eliminate variations in weight figures between truck weighing stations were paramount.

The debate, which harped on the theme: “Trade Regulation and Acceleration of Growth: Strengths and Constraints of the New Law Governing Commercial Activities in Cameroon,” convened a cross section of business people from the commercial and industrial city of Douala with one hope: to propose ways to enhance economic growth through an improved business climate.

Participants sought to know why would the law would exclude control officers judicial inquest if the products seized during controls deteriorates while under his keeping, insufficient coordination between the different administration, marked delays witness...
