Municipal Elections Results : 17 Petitions Deposited In Yaounde

Nine political parties have deposited appeals calling on the partial or total cancellation of election operations in some councils in the Centre Region.

A total of 17 petitions from nine different political parties have been deposited at the Yaounde Administrative Court located in Mendong. The appeals are from nine political parties which include the CPDM, PCRN, PURS, CRAC, ANDP, PDC, UNIVERS, UDCI and UNDP who participated in the February 9, 2020 municipal elections in the Centre Region. The filing of petitions is in accordance with the Electoral Code which in its Section 194 states “Any elector, candidate or person acting in the capacity of a government election officer may petition for the cancellation of elections in the council concerned before the competent administrative court.” It is therefore in this context the nine political parties have prayed the court to either partially or totally cancel the elections.
According to the petitions received, Mebenga Olinga of the CPDM party is praying the court to disqualify the candidacy of Olinga Olinga who is number 16 on the list for the Maka Council in the Upper-Sanga Division. Yogo Odile of CRAC on his part is requesting the total cancellation of election operations in the same Maka Council. The same petition was filled by Ndjiki Mpeck Simon of CPDM.
