Senate Examines Bill To Regulate Ammunition

A plenary sitting took place yesterday chaired by Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji.

 

The despicable atrocities of the Boko Haram terrorist sect in the Far North Region of Cameroon and the phenomenon of organised crime coupled with increasing turbulence in neighbouring countries, the government has tabled a bill to lay down general weapons and ammunition regulations in Cameroon. The bill which has already been adopted in the National Assembly was yesterday tabled in plenary at the Senate during a sitting chaired by Marcel Niat Njifenji. The bill was referred to the Committee on National Defence and Security for scrutiny. It will be defended in committee by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo.

The bill, according to its explanatory statement, seeks not only to facilitate the control of weapons circulation within the country, but also to adapt the legal framework of weapons and ammunition regulations to the profound changes that have taken place in society.
