2016 Women's AFCON: Yaounde Celebrates Cameroon's Qualification For Final

The Lionesses were celebrated with pump and pageantry in all the nooks and crannies of capital city.

 

Fans and supporters of the Indomitable Lionesses heaved a sigh of relief yesterday November 29, following their 1-0 victory over the Black Queens of Ghana at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde to qualify for the finals. The victory of the Lionesses was celebrated with pump and pageantry in all the nooks and crannies of Yaounde.

Prior to the match many fans could be seen along the streets of the capital city carrying gadgets, flags and some putting on the national colours. Even though yesterday was an official working day, many managed to leave places of work early enough in order to go the stadium on time. As from 3:00 p.m. the streets of Yaounde were almost deserted as many taxi drivers had packed to go and watch the match.

At the Ekounou neighbourhood many fans watched the match on flat screens in bars. At the Mfoundi market football lovers watched the match in shops and supermarkets with flat screens. At the Warda Fan Village, thousands of supporters watched the semi-final match on the giant screen that has been erected for the competition. In spite of the security checks, fans made their way into the village without any problem.
