New Trend In Market Life

Due to the coronavirus, women have adopted the prescribed measures, respecting each of them to the letter when they are in markets.

The usual hustle and bustle that characterizes markets in the country is still very much present. People still continue with their usual shopping especially women, but during this period of health crises, more precautions and attitudes are being adopted. The wearing of face mask, washing of hands with running water and soap, keeping of social distancing of 1.5metres are the rules of the day which govern some of the attitudes adopted by women venturing into the open market. These measures are eased for clients by some vendors who have taken upon themselves the initiative to provide water and soap for the washing of hands and others go as far as taking the temperature of clients before they enter their shops so as to reduce the risk of contamination.
Every woman now dances to the tune of the Covid-19. The usual congestion, scrubbing and careless touching of foodstuffs have witnessed a change “Whenever I go to the market, I make sure I put on my face mask and gloves, and also do not touch things anyhow and respect social distancing”, said Gladys Essengue, a house wife who goes to the market on a daily bases to get foodstuffs for the household. She added that once back from the market, she washes her hands before entering the house so as to protect her husband and children. This attitude which was done occasionally has now become a routine for many.
Marie Alima is a petit trader who buys things from the main market and sells in her neighborhood at Anguissa. As all petit traders, she frequents the market. “immediately I get back home, I wash my hands and when going out I always put my mask on”, she said.
