Douala: Collective Marriages Organised For 74 Couples

Nwele Secondary Civil Status Officer graduated the couples from “small marriages” on December 3, 2016.

 

Small marriages, better known in Pidgin English as “come we stay”, and also referred to as concubine lifestyle, is gradually reducing in Bonaberi with the establishment of collective marriages since 2008 by the Nwele Secondary Civil Status Centre under Robert Ndafeut. Celebrated every December, this year’s ceremony graduated 74 couples from living as concubine to living in legality.

Among them, the youngest couples; Simnosou Christopher, 26 and Falwa Yakoubu, 16, and the oldest couple; Mbatchou Jean Marie, 63 and Tokga Berthe 45, were given a special court wedding while the remaining 74 couples tied the knot at the same time.

Before saying “yes, I do,” the Civil Status Officers of Moungo-Route-Toche Emmanuel, that of Bonalea- Ngang Mengoli Martin and that of Bomono ba Mbengue- Mambo Clement, reminded the couples of articles 212, 213, 214 and 215 of the civil code that reiterate fidelity, the man as family head,  provision of wife&rs...
