Energy Sector: “Power Africa” Identifies Projects

The Minister of Water Resources and Energy held talks with a delegation from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency in Yaounde yesterday, December 6, 2016.

 

The Country Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Shannon M. Roe and the Chief of Political-Economic Section in the Embassy of the United States of America in Cameroon, David P. Brownstein, have informed the Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna, that Cameroon is eligible to the “Power Africa” framework. They held talks with Atangana Kouna on December 6, 2016, in Yaounde.   It later emerged that Cameroon could now receive funding from “Power Africa”, a project of U.S. President Barack Obama to increase the number of people with access to electricity.

The delegation came to understand the sense of government’s priority projects in the energy sector. They told the Minister that “Power Africa” is a project-base scheme, and identifying projects for funding was primordial, given that Cameroon’s eligibility is established. Government’s priority in the energy sector and specific projects that require funds are questions that found answers after a working session with experts that ensued the audience with the Minister.
