Senate Enters High Gear

Members of the Committee on Finance and Budget have no rest as cabinet ministers therein defend their budgetary allocations.

The heartbeat of parliamentary activities in the November 2016 ordinary session of parliament is at the Senate where members of the Committee on Finance and Budget chaired by Senator Elie Victor Essomba Tsoungui have seen cabinet ministers file past as they defend their budgetary allocations.

The Committee members are conscious of the fact that they have to be expeditious as after work in the committee, there will still be another long plenary sitting to adopt the Finance bill of the Republic of Cameroon for the 2016 financial year. Senators would also have to adopt the bill on the mining code before the end of the November 2016 ordinary session of parliament that statutory has to end by Friday.

With this in mind, work in the Committee got to the  peak on Sunday, December 4, 2016 when the Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey launched the budgetary defence session.   On Monday, December 5, 2016 being the second day of work in the committee, 18 cabinet ministers were programmed to defend their budgetary allocations up to 5 :15 a.m. yesterday morning. But by the time work ended for the day at mid-night, only nine cabinet ministers had finished defending the budgetary allocations.
