Public Finance: Call For Quality Spending

Members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court met yesterday in Yaounde.

 

The present financial and socio-economic context of Cameroon marked by the drive towards emergence and economic growth warrants efficient and scrupulous management of State finances. The 15th exchange forum between members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court, yesterday December 7, 2016 in Yaounde provided the opportunity to seek ways of ensuring qualitative and good governance in the management of public finances. Thus, the theme for the exchange forum which was also intended to evaluate recommendations of their previous meetings was “Quality of public spending.”

Quality public spending, according to the President of the Finance and Budget Committee, Hon. Rosette Ayayi, is measured by the results obtained. In an environment where institutions strive for good governance, it is no longer the question of spending for the sake of it, but rather the quest for results, she said. The programme-budget, Hon.
