Ce que dit la loi : Who Can Be A Candidate?

As per the election of regional councilors, the Electoral Code gives clarification as to who can be a candidate, voting procedure and the subsequent proclamation of results. Section 175 of the Code states that any Cameroonian citizen of either sex who enjoys the right to vote and is registered on electoral lists, aged 23 years at the date of election, can read and write English or French and shows proof of effective residence of at least six months with the area of the council concerned can be nominated candidate for the elections. 
Giving further details, the legal document in Section 243 indicates that regional councilors shall be delegates of divisions elected by indirect universal suffrage, or representatives of traditional rulers elected by their peers. The Code fixes the term of office of regional councilors for five years and who shall be eligible for re-election. 
Heads of administrative units and/or their assistance may not stand for election into regional councils during their tenure of office as per Section 253(1) of the Electoral Code. The incompatibility situation cited in the aforementioned Section shall equally be applicable to police, gen...
