Limbe : The Blessings Of Local Governance

A new market, FEICOM’s sumptuous building and attractions to tourists by sea and by land are being encouraged by the current drive to empower local governance.

Limbe among Cameroon’s major coastal cities is somewhat plugging the fruits of decentralization. A survey shows new investments sprouting in the city, the major west Bank project, a special cleanliness drive, the organized Limbe Deep Sea Port, new council buildings and the FEICOM sumptuous office. Behind the various infrastructural achievements lye the able hands of a devoted personnel with great visions for the Atlantic coastal city such as City Mayor, Motanga Andrew. 
The Limbe municipality gives the South West Region the pride of an entity that can boost the economy of more than 400.000 inhabitants through tourism attractive employment facilities like restaurants, rest house and the sea shore park where visitors can sit and savour sea products like fish and crabs. Equally, Limbe is home to the giant agro-industrial plant named the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), and the Oil Refinery Company (SONARA). Other major entities like the BEAC and a long coastal outlet stand tall in Limbe and give it an international grandeur.
Talking investment, Limbe will soon be enriched with a CFA 2.2 Billion ultra-modern market with funds supplied by the support fund for councils (FEICOM). Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux, Fako’s Senior Divisional Officer, accompanied Camille Nkoa, FEICOM’s General Manager, on 27 August, 2020, to lay the foundation stone for the construction of some 211 ultra-modern stalls plus other facilities at the Limbe main market square. The new market project shall be done in two phases. Phase one shall take FCFA 1.2 billion and shall consist of the construction of 211 stalls and an open shade for fresh fruit sellers.
A bird’s eye presentation of the project by the Director of Urban Development at the Limbe City Council, Casimir Nyime Lyonga, shows the entire project located at New Town Limbe with 575 square metres open shade for fresh food sellers at the downer section. The entire works shall cover a space of 7.500 square meters. The new market structures shall be fortified with a fire alert system and ready firefighting gears...
