Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetric, Paediatric Hospital : Understanding The Death Of Siamese Twins

Hospital sources say the delay of the late children in hospital was due to their parent’s resistance to comply with the social service.

Dust has been hovering over a certain siamese twins delivered through a caesarean section at the Yaounde Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital on October 29, 2020.  According to the Director General of the hospital, Professor Fru Angwafo III, the mother of the children in the person of Ndengue Nang Valerie Nadège was followed in a private clinic and was seen in the Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetric, Paediatric Hospital before term. He adds that she was scheduled to deliver some time in November but she came in active labour at the end of October.  “Several antenatal ultrasounds were done in the private clinic and in this hospital which confirmed the complicated pregnancy; that of Siamese twins,” he stated. Professor Fru Angwafor III went on to reveal that the lady was hospitalised and delivered of Siamese twins on the 29th of October 2020. “The Siamese twins were kept in the neonatal ward. They had all the necessary care. The first morphological examinations were carried out which confirmed a singular thoracic cavity,” he further revealed.  He regretted that their chances of survival were minimal given that they were joined at the level of the thoracic cavity. “But we continued intensive care and did all we could to ensure the babies were fine,” he said before opining the children developed neonatal infection and they died after 12 days of birth”. 
It became a talk of the day in some television and social media platforms when the babies gave up the ghost on the night of Monday November 9.  According to family sources, the dead babies and mother were unwillingly detained in hospital until November 10 in the evening because they could not ...
