Human Rights Action Plan: Stakeholders Discuss Monitoring Indicators

The National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms organised an event in Yaounde on December 14, 2016.

 

As part of efforts to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights in the country, the National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms, NCHRF, has developed an action plan that was adopted by government in December 2015 and runs from 2015 to 2019. It is in this light that NCHRF on December 14, 2016 in Yaounde organised a public discussion on developing indicators to monitor the implementation of the national plan by various government ministries.

The gathering had as theme, “Together for the Implementation of the National Action Plan on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights.” Opening the event, NCHRF Chair, Dr Chemuta Divine Banda, said the plan was developed through a participatory approach. This involved representatives of government ministries, the civil society, the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP and the United Nations Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa.

“The document is one of the basic requirements by the international community from each country for the promotion of human rights. The United Nations insists that each country develops a coherent plan to ensure that human rights are understood and respected,” explained Dr Banda.
