The first election of Regional Councillors in Cameroon on Sunday, December 6, 2020 is now history. What will forever be remembered is the enriching experience and enthusiasm that both electors who were municipal councillors for the category of Delegates of Divisions and traditional rulers who elected their peers reportedly demonstrated throughout the national territory in the 58 constituencies. 
The candidates were more so enthusiastic as they will enter the annals of Cameroon’s history as the pioneer Regional Councillors. The election took place in polling centres in each of the Divisional Headquarters. Interesting was the that fact that though in the same venue, traditional rulers had their own polling stations and municipal councillors who voted Delegates of Divisions had their own polling stations.
After the first enriching experience through voting, His Majesty Fon Angwafor III of Mankon in the North West Region in describing the election said, “It was a great moment reuniting with my colleagues, traditional rulers around the polling station.”  The North West Regional Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique who has been working tooth and nail for the success of the historic election in the restive socio-political crisis stricken region in assessing the polling operation said, “The Electoral College massively turned out for the elections and all the categories of traditional rulers filed out to give form to the Special Status granted the North West and South West regions.”
The election remains a curiosity as traditional rulers who in all former elections were either candidates sponsored by political parties and electors to vote other candidates were on the limelight taking their destiny into their hands.  Also traditional rulers who are electors discovered the important mission they had in deciding their peers who will not only fight to ensur...
