The suspension of the President of CAF has consequences on the African football governing body

Since the taking over of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by Ahmad Ahmad the day-to-day management has been limping with several decisions contested decisions by the different stakeholders. Apart from the postponement of many or most international competitions like, the African Champions League, Confederations Cup, African Nations Championship, Africa Cup of Nation, among others, the financial and administrative situation witnessed a nosedive as many sponsors withdrew or review their contracts. This worsened with the poor management of CAF by its president leading to a FIFA six months takeover that exposed the immature and fraudulent handling of the coffers. 
The transitional period that was headed by FIFA’s Secretary General Fatma Samoura, revealed that President Ahmad Ahmad had violated the ethics of the confederation. This explains why since 2019 a dark cloud dangles over the Confederation of African Football (CAF). It all started with the arrest and release without charge of the former CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, in Paris while at a FIFA Congress ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as part of a probe into corruption. Then came the suspension of the President of CAF with enormous consequences on the African football governing body. 
On Monday November 23, 2020 FIFA banned the CAF president from African football for five years only months before the holding of new election. The ban disqualified him from standing for a new term early next year. It also signifies that the mandate of Congo’s Constant Omari as interim at the helm of the institution is prolonged.
