Statistics : Modern Building To Attain Quality Vision

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute on December 29, 2020 chaired the official inauguration ceremony of the new head office of the National Institute of Statistics.

The government of Cameroon will henceforth have quality statistics that will enable it better evaluate actions and the population on their part will also better evaluate the execution of government policy for their wellbeing thanks to the quality statistics that will be produced by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS). Government has provided the institute with a FCFA 12 billion modern head office building described as, « A flagship of the Head of State’s ‘Greater Accomplishments’ programme », that will provide the staff the conducive environment to produce optimum results.
The impportance government attaches to the contribution of statistics in the realisation of its emergence vision explained why the official inauguration ceremony of the new modern head office of the National Institute of Statistics was placed under the patronage of the President of the Republic Paul Biya and the ceremony was presided by his representative, Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. Chairing inauguration ceremony of the edifice that was completely financed by the public investment budget and constructed by local enterprises, Prime Minister Dion Ngute recalled that, « In 2011, the Head of State, Paul Biya made mention of the fact that Cameroon would be transformed into a huge building site. This is once more the truth of what he said, » Describing the structure, the Prime Minister further said, « It is one more edifice that has come to beautify this lake area of Yaounde. » He said that the production of quality statistics will enable government to evaluate its actions and also enable the population to evaluate government policy. He expressed delight that the National Institute of Statistic decided to make use of the local expertise in constructing its modern head office, stating that it translated the preference for local enterprises and the promotion of local champions who have the required capacities. The Prime Minister encouraged other government institutions to copy the example of NIS to use local expertise and build modern structures in the vicinity of the Lake area in Yaounde to match with its modern structure. He also urged the management and staff of the NIS to make good use of the working instrument and ensure its proper maintenance.
