Coronavirus : Human Error Or Natural Disaster?

President Paul Biya during his New Year message to the nation on December 31, 2020 raised questions about the origin of the ravaging pandemic.

Cameroon’s Head of State, President Paul Biya has opened a reflection on the origin of the Coronavirus, a pandemic that made the year 2020 to undoubtedly be remembered as a dark year marked by hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide.
He said that Cameroon, like almost all countries in the world, was affected perhaps less severely than other States. “Despite our efforts, COVID-19 plunged many families into mourning and seriously hampered the functioning of our economy and society,” President Paul Biya said. On the health situation of COVID-19 pandemic in Cameroon as at December 30, 2020, the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie declared during the Cabinet Meeting of December 30, 2020 chaired by Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute that the country has registered 26,277 infected cases for 24,892 recoveries and 446 deaths.
Taking all these into consideration, President Biya wondered, “Should man take the blame because of his wanton exploitation of the planet’s natural resources and his constant engagement in conflicts leading to massacres and diseases, as well as experiments to develop new weapons?”  Cameroon’s Head of State says that whatever answers would be given to the reflection he has opened with regard to the origin of the Coronavirus, “Our era should take the credit for clearly posing the problem of the relationship between man and his natural environment,” stating that this was the objective of the Paris Conference on Global Warming, whose recommendations are still relevant today. Scientists and researchers have tried to come out with the scientific origin of the virus but President Paul Biya opts for research to establish the relationship between environmental degradation, the origin and propagation of the virus.
As reflections continue to establish  the origin of the Coronavirus, the world at large needs to redouble the respect of barrier measures put in place by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and implemented by different countries considering that the danger pose by the pandemic continuous to loom.
