"Les Gens": Tony Elumelu
His vision is to have Africa built by Africans through entrepreneurship. Creating the use and added value for African countries is his modus operandis. Tony Elumelu, Nigerian-born philanthropist is a household name, famous businessman with a revolutionary mind on the continent. The Board Chair of the Union Bank for Africa, UBA, is founder of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, TEEP. By offering to identify and help grow 10,000 exceptional start-ups and young businesses from across Africa over the next 10 years, Tony Elumelu holds that a vibrant Africa by Africans is achievable. To him, the businesses are expected to create 1,000,000 new jobs and contribute $10 billion (about FCFA 590 billion) to Africa’s economy. The Nigerian mogul pledged $100 million (about FCFA 59 billion) to create TEEP in 2014. Some 19 young Cameroonian entrepreneurs are just back in the country after benefitting from the multi-year programme in Lagos, Nigeria. Laudable indeed!
