Ministers Explain Youth Empowerment Measures

Ministers on February 11, 2021 at the National Museum in Yaounde answered questions from youths as part of activities marking the 55th edition of the National Youth Day celebration.

The 55th edition of the celebration  of the National Youth Day in Cameroon on February 11, 2021 enters the annals of history in which popular march past parades were cancelled and specifically in the nation’s capital Yaounde, as one in which Ministers explained government programmes and projects to empower youths. Exchanges centred on the celebration theme, “Youths, Resilience, Challenges and Opportunities at the time of COVID-19 pandemic.”
The  premises of the National Museum in Yaounde was transformed into the celebration ground in a two-part event. The protocol part consisted of the singing of the National Anthem, rebroadcast of President Paul Biya’s Youth Day message, singing of a patriotic songs by pupils, musical displays, cultural display by a group of youths portraying cultural zones of Cameroon and the display of the majorette of the University of Yaounde I.
The historic part of the celebration were the question and answer session between the youths and Ministers organised by the Ministers of Communication and that of Youth Affairs and Civil Education. Youths from all the regions of Cameroon and those in the diaspora even through online means asked questions on a variety of domains.  The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo clarified the youths on professionalization of higher education and the policy to ensure the employability of degree holders, that of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie There Abena Ondoa explained the mission of Women Empowerment Centres to cater for girls who had no opportunity to attend formal education. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development explained the place of Regional and Local Councils in creating access roads to production basins, cited ongoing projects in that direction as well as measures to mechanise agriculture.
