Lom-Pangar: Construction Of 30 MW Plant To Begin

Electricity Development Corporation and the China CAMC Engineering Co Limited on December 23, 2016, signed a partnership agreement.

The second phase of construction of the Lom-Pangar Hydropower Dam is expected to begin in January 2017 if commitments between government and its development partners are respected. The Electricity Development Corporation, EDC, and the China CAMC Engineering Co Limited on Friday December 23, 2016, signed an agreement to design, assemble, supply and commission a 30-megawatt plant at the Lom-Pangar Dam. The construction of the electricity plant is expected to commence in January 2017. Work on the FCFA 30 Billion project will last 30 months.

The General Manager of EDC, Theodore Nsangou, described the project as a Christmas gift to the East Region where some 150 localities will be connected. Over 10,000 households will be powered when the project comes on stream, he disclosed. He said the construction of a plant at Lom-Pangar is part of key projects that will allow for the completion of work on Lom-Pangar. Theodore Nsangou said the commencement of the second phase of the project was coming at a time the dam is already filled at six billion cubic metres, augmenting 170 MW to the Song Lolulou and Edea Hydropower Dams.
