North West : Youth Unite For Peace, Prosperity

UNDP and reconciliation building stakeholders engage youths to embrace recovery for dignity as UYO celebrates World Peace Day in Bamenda.


The event on October 21 and 22, 2021 in Bamenda was a conference to give meaning to the 2021 World Peace Day in a region rocked by ongoing socio-political and security challenges. It turned out to be a veritable moment to mobilize the region to stand for peace as the gateway to economic recovery and prosperity. The Bamenda-based United Youths Organization (UYO), was to thank for the initiative which featured messages that inspire hope and stresses peace as a strength and not cowardice in the face of the senseless violence, killings, kidnappings, that are not helping matters for all. 
Prominent amongst guest speakers; Fru George of the Livelihood and Revitalization of Local Economy Programme of the UNDP, edified participating youths and women with opportunities that require peace to recover and rebuild dignity. It is all about UNDP recovery pillars captured in social cohesion projects, summed up in modern multipurpose women and youth centers, rehabilitation of destroyed schools and health facilities, support to youths towards the revitalization of the local economy. 
Away from the UNDP, the Pioneer Commissioner for Development at the North West Regional Assembly, Ghejung Awunti encouraged the youths to foster peace for economic recovery and prosperity. He challenged them to do all it takes to have peace because the Regional Assembly is around to speak and advocate for the region.
