Unity in Diversity : SW Chiefs Meet To Pick Regional Emblem

This will enable a Regional cultural identification for public occasions.

The Traditional Rulers of the South West Region under the chair of the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Chief Dr. Atem Ebako, met on October 22, 2021 to identify a common regional symbol, colour and fabric peculiar to the area.
The purpose will be for use during public festivals and other occasions to identify an indigene of the South West Region. Animating experts from the Ministry of Arts and Culture explained during the Chiefs conclave that cultural identity and advancement could lead to boosting the economy, enabling employment and enhancing tourism.
As Chief Dr, Atem Ebako buttressed, “it will be a matter of giving the South West Region a personality without rejecting any other values from elsewhere.” Royal stools from Lebang Fontem, Foto of Ndungatet, Central Mamfe, Bafaw Kumba, Talangai and others were represented at the Buea cultural confab.
The custodians of traditions who met in Buea in the hall of the National Advanced School for Local Administration (NASLA), listed chieftaincy representations from all six Administrative Divisions of the South West namely Fako, Kupe Muanenguba, Lebialem, Manyu, Meme and Ndian. During the Chiefs caucus, the cultural leaders pondered on such a fabric and mannerism that truly represents and cuts across the South West Region.
