End-Of- Year Festivities : Food Security, Accessibility Assured

Government made the assurance during the cabinet meeting Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute chaired on November 4, 2021.

Cabinet ministers during the cabinet meeting of November 4, 2021 assured the population that there will be goods of basic necessity, agricultural products, fish, chicken, meat  and other livestock products in good quantity and quality as well as in accessible prices during the upcoming 2021 end-of-year festivities and thereafter. 
Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute presided at the cabinet meeting at the Auditorium of the Prime Minister’s Office. He stated the context of the approaching festivities in which the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a rise in the prices of good worldwide. He stressed the fact that the import-substitution policy was intended to enable Cameroonians produce and consume what they produce and said the meeting was holding with the objective to evaluate strategies put in place to ensure the availability of goods of mass consumption and others as the 2021 end-of-year festivities approached and the measures to implement the policy.
The Ministers of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry, Dr Taiga and that of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe each in their respective domains gave the assurances during the cabinet meeting dedicated to measures taken to ensure the availability of good during the end-of-year festivities and measures taken to implement the import-substitutition policy.
Talking to the press after the cabinet meeting, Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana said the Covid-19 pandemic has caused the increase in prices of goods in the international market, shipping cost which increased by 400 per cent and cost of raw materials. All these factors, he said, have caused an inflation of prices of good in the domestic market. However, Cameroon has put in place a strategy based on consultation with economic operators, anticipation and field coverage through promotional sales. With optimism, he said, “Products will not only be available during the end-of-year festivities but will also be accessible.”  The Minister also assured of sustainable of the trend thereafter.
