African Draughts Championship: Cameroon Emerges Champions

The third edition of the competition ended in Yaounde on Tuesday November 9, 2021.

T he national men’s draughts team emerged overall winners of the third edition of the African Senior Draughts Championship and the first edition of the African Team Blitz Championship that ended in Yaounde on Tuesday November 9, 2021. Organised by the Cameroon Draughts Federation in collaboration with the African Draughts Confederation (CAJD), the competition brought together teams from seven countries on the continent. They are Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Congo, Mali and Cameroon. Cameroon presented two teams in the competition. For one week, inhabitants of Yaounde and its environs had an opportunity to discover new techniques in the sport. In the normal competition, Cameroon finished first with 12 points. Côte d’Ivoire was second with 11 points and Congo was third with 10 points. In the Blitz championship, Cameroon was first with 12 points, Côte d’Ivoire nine and Congo eight points. In all, Cameroon has maintained the African championship title they won in 2015 and they equally won the first African Blitz Championship title.
