2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Two Determinant Matches

In order to keep roaring, the Indomitable Lions, second in Group D, will have to put up successful fights in their last two group games against Malawi and Côte d’Ivoire.

After four playing days of the ongoing qualification phase of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon currently occupy the second spot in group D with nine points, a point behind the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire that are first. The Flames of Malawi have three points meanwhile the bottom spot is occupied by Mozambique (one point). With this standing, Cameroon has two more important challenges to surmount to keep their qualification chances alive. First, they will be meeting the Flames of Malawi tomorrow Saturday November 13, 2021 at the Orlando Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa; match counting for day 5. After this, the Lions will be locking horns in the final day against Côte d’Ivoire in the Japoma stadium on Tuesday, 16 November, 2021. To be sure of continuing the race, losing the match against Malawi is forbidden. The Indomitable Lions will have to at least get a draw or better still grab the three points. With a draw, the Cameroonian team will have to pray to the Gods of football for their main rival, Côte d’Ivoire to perform poorly in their day Five match against Mozambique. A situation which looks very difficult but not impossible. After all, the Ivorian’s would have come to terms with the fact that the ball is round after the current bottom placed Mozambique held them down with a goalless draw as both nations began their campaign for the World Cup. If Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire win on Match day five, the Indomitable Lions will need to beat the Elephants to progress. But with what team will Cameroon be using to quench the Flames of Malawi? At the time of this report, it was clear that Choupo-Moting will not part of the team due to health reasons. Again, it is clear that defender Jean-Charles Castelleto will be absent due to his father’s death. Nonetheless, Coach Antonio Conceiçao will have to make use of the available players to quench the flames of Malawi...
