“Our Field Activities Are Centred On Strengthening The Party’s Position”

Paul Mbafor, National President, Youth Wing of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP).

How is the Youth Movement of the National Union for Democracy and Progress fairing few months to the party’s congress?
According to the by-laws of the party, the ancillary organs, (Youth wing and Women wing) are in charge of mobilisation. That is, when the Party's Chairman, Minister of State, Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maigari, surrounded by his executive (Central Committee), takes a decision at the strategic level, we are on the ground to execute them zealously. From the results of the recent elections; senatorial, municipal, legislative, and regional, the NUDP emerges as the second political force on the ground and the indisputable strongest opposition party in the nation, regardless of the hype, populism and superlative propaganda of other political actors. A few statistics summarily demonstrate this fact.
During the Senate elections, the only party that challenged the ruling CPDM in all 10 regions is the NUDP, thus proving its republican nature and its firm implantation nationwide. Mind you, except for the West Region, our party won votes in all the other nine regions, even in the crisis stuck North West and South West Regions. Note that we didn't have a single councilor in most of these regions, thus we snatched votes from our very powerful counterparts.
In the Municipal elections we came out second nationwide with 15 councils and close to a thousand councilors. We are the only opposition party to head a City Council. Bobbo Salihou, a former executive of the youth wing of the party is the City Mayor of Ngaoundere.
As for the Regional elections, the facts speak on our behalf. The only party to have grabbed an entire region (the Adamawa Region under the expert leadership of Dr. Dewa, President of the Regional Council) and holds seats in two other regions is the NUDP.
Of the seven MPs we have at the National Assembly, two are youths and amongst the youngest in the House with three women. If you go back in history to the very first multiparty elections, the famous 1991 elections, the youngest MP was a youth of the NUDP, Hon Adji Marie Paule. The youngest current serving Mayors are from this party, Mr Celestin Yanda of Touboro in Mayo Rey, Mr. Idrissou Abana of Ngaoundere 2. The Vice President of the Adamawa Regional Council is a youth in the person of Mr. Bruno Wahoum. As you can see our contribution to the party is remarkable and acknowledged. As an ancillary organ in charge of ground mobilization therefore, we are proud to present these results.

What are the major activities of the youths in the party now?
Like every serious political party that aspires to conquer and manage power, all our field activities are centred on strengthening the positions the party already holds and conquering new grounds. We stick to the book. The NUDP is proud to say we are the most disciplined party in the entire history of the nation, and there is adorable order in our ranks, despite all the maneuvers orchestrated by forces aiming at our destabilization. Proof, we are the only ...
