2021 Women’s World Handball Championship: Cameroon Records First Win

The Lionesses defeated Uzbekistan in their second President's Cup outing on December 11, 2021 in Lliliria, Spain.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have succeeded to wipe out shame by winning their first match at the 2021 Women’s World Handball championship. It was in their second outing at the President's Cup, a competition organised for teams that emerged bottom of their preliminary round groups. The Lionesses beat Uzbekistan 42-23 in the game played on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in Lliliria, Spain. Cameroon seemed to have had a mastery of their opponents and succeeded to get to the back of the net in most attempts.

The girls of Coach Serge Guebogo had dominated the game from start to finish winning the first half, 19-7. The team had evidently improved on their offensive moves reason why the goals kept counting. The defense was equally watertight frustrating all the moves from their opponents. Goalkeeper, Marie Paule Balana who plays for FAP handball club of Yaounde was very useful to the team with several saves giving her side much confidence and urging them to fight harder. Laeticia Pétronie Ateba Engadi of Fanz handball club of Yaounde was named Player of the Match after having scored 14 goals out of the 42 netted by Cameroon.
