Promotion of Bilingualism, Multiculturalism: Commission Evaluates 2021 Activities

The Chairperson, Peter Mafany Musonge presided at the second biannual session of the Commission on December 16, 2021 which also outlined projections for 2022.

In order to efficiently carry out its mission of enhancing the use of the two official languages and peaceful social cohesion, the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM) has held its second biannual session for 2021 to appraise its activities during the year. The Commission’s Chairperson, Peter Mafany Musonge presided the December 16, 2021 session which was dedicated to stock-taking and the projections for 2022.

In his opening remarks, the Chairperson said the Commission practically carried out two main activities in the course of 2021 which include intense campaigns against hate speech and xenophobia, and field visits to follow-up and evaluate the implementation of the public policy on the promotion of English and French in employer’s organisations and some private companies based in Douala.   “We went to eight regions of the country in a campaign against hate speech and xenophobia. Why do I say eight regions, because we had earlier in the month of November gone to the North and Far North Regions. So, we covered the whole country in about eight months,” he stated.
