NW,SW Crisis : Need To Readjust Combat Strategies

Government has used armed combat, civilo-military actions, introduction of reconstruction plans and various forms of dialogue but the crisis persists.

The socio-political and security crisis in the North West and South West Regions remains a cause for concern considering its evolving sophistication. There is the imperative need to readjust combat strategies following a change of the combat methods of the separatist fighters who now avoid direct confrontation with the defence and security forces and using ambush tactics making use of more sophisticated explosive devices and ammunition.
Government had been using diverse peace methods such as the creation of the Bamenda and Buea Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Centres. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute has continued with peace crusades. On September 22 and 23, 2021 in Buea he told the population of the South West Region of government efforts to resolve the crisis and fast track the development through the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction of the North and South West Regions, meet the demand of teachers and Common Law Lawyers. From Buea, he moved to Bamenda still for the explanation mission. The defence and security forces on their part have been toiling day and night in these two regions to maintain peace and ensure that the populations go about their daily activities unperturbed.
Despite the numerous government efforts with the support of partners,  there is only a noticeable slight improvement. In the last half of 2021, the separatist fighters heightened attacks on soldiers and kidnappings of civilians.
