Most women now prefer to wear wigs rather than spend hours in the hair beauty salon.

In the yesteryears wigs were considered to a thing of the old and of the poor but today the trends have completely changed as most women, old like young are on a wig wearing spree. In a survey carried by CT on January 5, 2022 out of 10 women interviewed, 7 were wearing wigs. Beauty wigs are artificial covering on the head won by women aesthetics purposes.

Today, wigs are sold in most markets and beauty salons in Douala. They have been well braided or sewn to suite the taste of the clients. Today it is not uncommon to find wigs in curls, straight, Rasta, braids, ponytails and a lot more. The different types of wigs including, remy human hair, human hair, synthetic hair wigs. Capless wigs, lace front wigs, monofilament wigs, full lace wigs, 100% hand-tied wig are all found in Mpobbi market which is one of the center were wigs are sold.

Jean Bosco who sells wigs at Mboppi Market told CT that more and more women prefer to buy wigs rather than going to the hair beauty salon often. He said per day he can sell at least 15 wigs of different kinds. “My wigs range from CFA 15.000 to CFA 200.000 depending of the type. I also supply to some big women in their offices as most will not want to be seen in the market searching for wigs. My wigs are good and affordable” he said.
