Yaounde: Nightclub Inferno Leaves At Least 16 Dead

The fire broke out at about 2.30 am this day, January 23, 2022, in Livs Nightclub in the posh neighbourhood of Bastos.

At least 16 deaths have so far been confirmed after an inferno broke out in a nightclub in Yaounde early in the morning of January 23, 2022. While investigations are underway to determine the cause of the deadly fire in Livs Nightclub, (former Yaouba Bar), the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi in a statement, says early findings suggest that the fire was caused by fireworks often used in the nightclub.

The resulting fire engulfed the ceiling, creating two powerful explosions. Causing a stampede as those inside tried to flee outisde. The Minister notes that President Paul Biya has ordered an investigation into the incident and that survivors of the accident be treated at government's cost. The Head of State therefore addreeses his heartfelt condolences to families whose releatives were involved in the unfortunate incident. Minister Sadi therefore appeals for greater caution and prudence, especially in entertainment sites.
