Toll-free Number: Population Sensitised On Usage

With the number 1500, the population collaborate with the police, participate in the fight against insecurity, denounce police harassments and make useful enquiries.

The population of Douala has been urged to make good use of the public utility number 1500 in order to better appropriate the intervention of police. The Secretary General in the Littoral Governor’s Office, Aboubakar Tchiouto, made the plea in an interview with reporters at the end of a ceremony to launch a campaign to raise the awareness of the population on the effective use of the tollfree number at the Place du gouvernement in Bonanjo on January 27, 2022. He said the number has the potential to contribute in eradicating robbery and assault in the city.
The campaign by the General Delegation of National Security with the support of the German International Cooperation Agency (GiZ) will also be effected in Limbe, Bafoussam, Garoua and Yaounde.
By dialing 1500, the population reaches straight to a special police service which promptly deploys to the field of incident for free intervention in case of insecurity. By using the line, the population collaborate with the police, participate in the fight against insecurity, denounce police harassments and make useful enquiries. The line is open round the clock and reachable from all corners of Cameroon with all local networks and fixed phone. Before now some people called the Green number even when on the ground there was no real need, sometimes service received bips instead of calls from people who didn’t know the number is toll free. Even so, security officers were deployed to certain neighbourhoods only to discover that the purported incident never happened and that the callers were nowhere to be found.
