Local Government: New Bangangte Council Building Commissioned

The event on February 10, 2022 was chaired by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam.

The ceremony on February 10, 2022 was carried out by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam. The building, financed by the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, is worth about 740 million FCFA. Amongst those attending the event was the Minister of Housing and Urban Development and former Mayor of Bangante, Celestine Ketcha Courtes.
Minister Elanga Obam, who is also Board Chairman of the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, said President Paul Biya’s decentralization drive is an important step in a process whereby all stakeholders will be able to identify the priority needs of local people. He said FEICOM as a major pillar in the decentralization process was an essential development actor in local councils. 
He said progress towards decentralization in Cameroon was well advanced and local authorities elected by their communities should enshrine government’s development vision in their council development plans. The Minister insisted that transfer of competence to local authorities was intended to encourage better local governance. 
Elanga Obam said after visiting many council areas, he discovered that local development was going fast. He said President Biya has taken a firm undertaking to encourage decentralization by assigning specific responsibilities to local authorities, and these authorities must respect such engagements for the benefit...
