Mbanga Bakoko Social Housing: 57 Buyers Handed Keys of Ownership

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes, who was on an official visit to Douala instructed them to respect common roles of living together.

Applicants of social housings at Mbanga Bakoko of the coastal metropolis of Douala returned home on Monday, February 14, 2022, smiling after receiving keys to completed apartments of the social housings, marking their ownership.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes, handed the keys to 57 buyers during an official ceremony dedicated to that purpose at the premises of the social housing at Mbanga Bakoko. The Minister said she was here on the instruction of President Paul Biya within the government social housing programme which is so dear to him.
Access to the social housings is through renting or buying. To be eligible, one must be Cameroonian, does not own any landed property in the city. Priority is given to youths, Cameroonians in the diaspora, handicap persons and female applicants.
Occupants of the housings through their association raised the problem of sanitation, security and absence of leisure facilities. According to them, the absence of public lighting has a great potential for assault and robbery in the area, bushes covering uncompleted buildings has both security and health risks. They called on authorities to rehabilitate the 103 solar lighting systems, create a gendarmerie station and a market, establish speed brakers on roads passing through the site and leisure facilities like a football field.
