Since the coming to power of the military junta in Mali there has been a lot of criticism within and out of the country against the manner with which the country’s military authorities took power and the measures put in place to hand over power to a civil

Despite the putting in place of a transitional government headed by a civilian Prime Minister and determination to fight the incessant wave of insecurity in the country, several questions are still sprouting with regards to their willingness to respect their engagements. These questions have started getting answers as the military junta has embarked on a series of reforms.
The putting in place of a political road map that spells-out the duration of the junta in power has been regarded as a major step towards the organization of free and fair elections which is the only path to democracy. Though this reform has been highly criticized by some major actors and social organizations who are demanding the swift holding of elections, it has however brought some detente among the political stakeholders who were at the roots of the political mutations. The organization of a nationwide consultations aimed at rewriting the constitution of the country and the four-day national conference during which unflinching assessment of the state of the nation and concrete proposals to end the crisis were made are also regarded as a major push because according to the junta leader, Assimi Goita, “the foundation of every country, lies on the solidness of its constitution and institutions.”
