Cholera: 28 Confirmed Cases In Renewed Outbreak

The Littoral Region is suffering a rash spread of the disease since December 22, 2021.

A rash outbreak of cholera has overtaken the Littoral as 28 out of 80 suspected cases have been found with the disease. Since its outbreak in December 22, 2021, two have died in the course of being rushed to hospital and during treatment in hospital.
The two deaths were from Douala, 24 of the confirmed cases are also based in Douala, four are in Melon, while 78 have been successfully treated as at February 9, 2022. These patients are from the health districts of Deido, Nylon, Boko, Bonassama, New Bell and Melon. But before the outbreak there was an isolated case at the Bonassama health district in November. Health authorities in Douala on February 17, 2022, attributed the renewed outbreak to poor hygiene in a cholera endemic zone, especially in the coastal metropolis of Douala.
Risk zones include Youpwe, Nylon, Mambanda, although Douala as a whole is cholera endemic. The outbreak has led to an activation of the Incident Command System in Bonanjo, which is under the Regional Delegation of Public Health.
